Introduction

Unwired album cover

Though quite small Sleepy Elephant packs a huge range of goodies into its ancient beamed interior.  The shop is on the ground floor of a house which it was decided, by the BBC's House detectives, might go back to as early as the 1400's.  However, historians at the Yorkshire Dales National Park can find no mention of a building on the site before the 1600's.  What is undoubtedly true is that the shop oozes old world charm and what more suitable merchandise to sell in such surroundings than glorious old books!  Sleepy Elephant specialises in books on Textile Crafts with forays into Local Topography, Theatre, Literature and Children's Books, but it is the Arts and Crafts section which gives us the excuse to stock a huge range of gifts, fashion and home furnishing illustrating a variety of craftwork from around the world.
